Televangelists, Megachurches and Large Media Ministries Receive Over $78.6 Million Dollars From Paycheck Protection Program

Trinity Foundation compiled the following table of televangelists, megachurches, media ministries and parachurch organizations receiving Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans with notes about select organizations in hopes that donors will practice better discernment and demand greater accountability from religious organizations. The following is not a complete list, but rather a representive sample of the types of organizations we monitor for financial transparency.

As Covid-19 spread across America and millions of jobs disappeared due to shelter in place lockdown restrictions, the Small Business Administration (SBA) offered forgivable PPP loans "to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll."

When businesses and non-profit organizations applied for loans, they revealed the number of jobs they were seeking to retain. With the SBA releasing this information,  employee numbers for some televangelists are being disclosed for the first time.

Keep in mind that some of these ministries engage in excessive compensation and own expensive luxury jets. Perhaps they wouldn't "need" a loan if they practiced responsible financial stewardship.

A summary and additional analysis of our research is available in the article Trinity Foundation Investigation: $78.6 Million in Government Guaranteed Loans Given to Televangelists.
